Position: Police Cadet
2025 Wage: $38.83/hour
2026 Proposed Wage: $40.19/hour
The police cadet is a unique position and opportunity for candidates seeking to become a licensed Police Officer for the City of Corcoran through participation in the Professional Peace Officer Education (PPEO) training program. The PPOE is a 22-week academy which will take place at Hennepin Technical College and is anticipated to begin around April 27th, 2026 with graduation in August 2026. After completion of the Professional Peace Officer Education training program the Cadet will be required to successfully pass the Minnesota Peace Officer Standards and Training licensing exam. The Cadet will be responsible for attending and successfully completing all courses required for the PPEO program with a minimum grade of B, complete all required classwork and related assignments on time and on schedule. They will need to continuously progress toward and pass the MN POST licensing exam. They will need to attend required Department meetings, trainings and City events, as well as maintain regular communication with designated department liaison during the academy. They will also ride-along with Corcoran Police, as directed by the training coordinator, to learn more about the City and Department. When the Cadet is not scheduled to attend any required classes or activities for the PPEO training program they will report to the Corcoran PD to assist with other duties assigned. Upon successful completion of the POST exam, and at the department's discretion, the Cadet will be eligible to be promoted to a probationary Police Officer position with the Corcoran Police Department. Minimum Education and Experience
Associate's Degree or Bachelor's Degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
Valid Driver's License
Ability to use a computer for coursework and for responding to email. Proficiency with MS Office (Word/Outlook) preferred.
Candidates will be required to successfully complete physical and psychological screenings, pass a background check, and have a valid driver's license. Applicants must meet all minimum qualifications outlined in the job description.
