In 1992, Corcoran residents voted to change their city from a statutory city to a home rule
city. The district judge appointed seven citizens to the charter commission and it has been
in existence ever since.
The function of the Charter Commission is to continue to study the local charter and government. The Charter Commission meets at least once each year as required by state statute. The Commission may meet more often if needed.
Charter Commissioners are appointed by the district court and serve for a four-year term. The only qualification for members of the Charter Commission is that they are qualified voters within the city. The judge interviews interested candidates an their application. Appointments are then made from those candidates who have stepped forward. The Corcoran Charter Commission has seven seats.
